THE M.O.C.H.A PROGRAM
The M.O.C.H.A. Program consists of the "Prenatal Academy" which is 10 weeks in duration. It provides 2 weeks of Newborn care, Infant CPR & Choking rescue education, 6 weeks of Lamaze childbirth education and 2 weeks of "Breastfeeding Basics" education. This portion of the program is followed by in-home assessments performed by midwives and lactation consultants during the initial 8 weeks postpartum (schedule TBD based on needs of the dyad). Supplemental lactation support is available to program participants in the form of "Lactation Stations" (weekly drop-in breastfeeding locations within the community) and "Bosom Buddies" (one on one peer support). The program culminates with " M.O.C.H.A. Mommy Mixers" wherein the opportunity for long-term network building exists as mothers and babies gather for play groups that promote secure attachment, developmental progress and social support. Local families get the opportunity to connect with each other through these groups that are open to all mothers in the community with children under the age of 3, Mixers remain free to M.O.C.H.A. program participants, public assistance, WIC and medicaid recipients, as well as all other low-income attendees. Sliding scale available for those who exceed income guidelines.
