About Us

M.O.C.H.A which stands for Mothers Of Color Health Access, seeks to do just what the name says: increase the accessibility of maternal health care for mothers who self-identify as being of color. As an aspiring non-profit organization, M.O.C.H.A seeks to target these vulnerable populations in efforts to help decrease both maternal and infant mortality rates.

What Makes M.O.C.H.A Different?

The M.O.C.H.A program is influenced by the midwifery philosophy which speaks to care that extends beyond postpartum and newborn care, both of which are critical yet under utilized by many women and children of color. The program is designed specifically to make postpartum and lactation care more conveniently accessed, bringing both services directly into the neighborhoods and homes of families that need them most. The statistics that describe the disparities that exist among women and infants of color are well known.
How We Intend To Help
-
We will provide education during the prenatal period when women are most impressionable as they're looking to prepare for childbirth and their role as caregivers.

-
We will increase postpartum care frequency and convenience, brining it into the communities and homes of families most at risk; thereby eliminating barriers currently faced in postpartum care compliance.

-
We will provide comprehensive lactation services and support as a standard for the families, free of charge.

-
We plan to positively impact maternal mental health and child development through the use of peer support play groups that promote mothers building bonds, children building skills and families building connections.

-
We plan to increase opportunities for future lactation professionals of color by way of mentorship and apprenticeship as they gain knowledge, skills and clinical hours needed to qualify for certification exams. (IBLCE)

"We can no longer stand by and only wish that things were different or only hope that change will come.
We must become proactive by being the difference and by being the change
needed for our women and our children."
